To Die for Hot Cocoa

Harry's Super Simple, Healthy Hot Cocoa

The secret to this easy recipe? Heat it slowly. Slow heat helps release the antioxidants.

1 1/2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder with 70% or more cacao (such as Scharffen Berger natural cocoa powder or Ghirardelli unsweetened cocoa)
2 teaspoons sugar
Pinch of salt
1 cup skim or low-fat milk

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and heat gently (do not let it boil), stirring frequently, until cocoa is just beginning to steam. Pour into a mug and enjoy.

EDITOR'S PICK
Valrhona chocolate

Treat yourself to chocolate -- dark, rich, 70% cocoa organic chocolate from Valrhona. Break off a square from the smooth, silky bar and let it slowly melt in your mouth, enveloping your taste buds with a deep, earthy, chocolaty finish. Lowering your blood pressure never tasted so good.

Fresh Dating Ideas

It's date night. You've got a sitter, and you and your sweetheart have exactly two and a half hours of alone time. Now what should you do?

Coming up with new date ideas is just about as easy as coming up with the formula for cold fusion. And while going to dinner and watching a movie really can be fun, here are a few ideas to spice up the best night of the week.
  • Sample multiple eateries. Have your appetizer, main dish, and dessert at different places. If you really want to go wacky, try different varieties of food for each course--get an Italian appetizer, a Chinese entrée, and an American dessert.
  • Put a new twist on the old favorite. Pack a simple dinner and eat in the park. Rent a movie, take a laptop, and watch the movie outdoors. Remember to bring a blanket and some pillows!
  • Make it a museum night. Eat dinner early, with the kids (so that you can walk slowly and not worry about running up the babysitting bill), then head out just the two of you for the nearest museum. Take your time walking around the exhibits.
  • Grab two hot chocolates and walk down center street (or inside the best shopping center) and strictly window shop. Chances are you'll have fun pointing out ridiculous prices, or looking inside home improvement stores and brainstorming for the future.
  • Get competitive. Grab your putter and go to the local golf course and practice putting (most places allow you to do this for free). Take turns picking holes to aim for. Whoever wins the most gets to choose what to do for dessert. Alternatively, you can adapt this to batting cages, bowling, or a miniature golf course.
  • Nurse your creative juices. Find out if you have a paint-your-own-pottery studio nearby. Color Me Mine is a chain you can find in many places all over the world. If you don't have one nearby, or don't want to spend the money, go to the beach or use snow to build a castle, igloo, or any other sculpture. Make sure to take pictures when you're done.

Money Matters...

As part of our budgeting plan to save any amount of money we can, we decided to cancel our cable tv and just only keep the internet and phone...and with that, we saved $50 a month...plus we don't really watch much t.v anymore. We also canceled YMCA membership; and that save us another $70, plus walking at the park is free, so why not do it, right? I also think that losing weight is one more thing because don't have to eat more, just enough balanced diet. I better get a job, too, just need to convince my husband because he doesn't want me to. I also think that by working outside home will help my mind free from worries, be more productive while earning, right? It has been awhile since my last job, it will be hard but I know, I'll get used to it since I love working. I guess need to start finding job now! Wish me luck, friends :-)!

Tips on Managing Diabetes

The Brief Way to Better Blood Sugar

This article from Real Age is very timing because I have type2 Diabetes and is now heading to taking insulin since the medicine I have been taking is not giving me any help. My Blood sugar level is still high. I don't want to take insulin and the only thing I know to avoid it is by exercising and eating foods good foods such as vegetables, fruits, meat and low carb foods. Not eating too foods rich in carbs like rice, pasta, bread and sugary foods to name a few is very important in maintaining blood sugar level. Anyway, if you have diabetes, these tips are for you, too! Turns out short and sweet could be a good strategy when it comes to reducing your risk of blood sugar problems like diabetes. If we're talking about exercise, that is. Men in a small study who added short, intense bursts of activity to mini workouts seemed better able to metabolize sugars.

Short, Fast, and Furious
Here's how the study worked. Each man worked out on a stationary bike three times a week for a minimum of 17 minutes per session. Sounds pretty doable. Then, during the sessions, they threw in a handful of 30-second bursts of high-intensity cycling. Again, not too taxing. After the bursts, they rested or cycled slowly for 4 minutes. Even better! The result? When the men were given the equivalent of a meal's worth of glucose at the end of the study, their bodies metabolized it better than before the study. (Here's another activity you should do less of -- for better blood sugar control.)

Just a Little Helps a Lot
Researchers suspect that bursts of intensity during workouts elicit stronger contractions and therefore more glucose uptake in the large muscles attached to bones. But high-intensity cardio isn't the only type of exercise that can impact blood sugar. Here's another type that may help control it.

A Loyal Friend, says Dr. Phil :-)

Amazing how accurate the result of the The Dr. Phil's personality test is! He got it right! Trust is very important to me; and once you break that trust and honesty, it is very hard for me to give back the same trust I have given before.
Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful & practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest. Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expect the same loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over it if that trust is ever broken.

Something Green for Tomorrow!

It is funny when you started to forget a special occasion like birthday especially if it is your own. Yup, I thought today is only the 12th of March, but it wasn't. I thought St. Patrick Day will be next week; so I forgot to return the form for Teacher's treat on St. Patrick Day. Now I need to come up with a snack for my son to bring to school tomorrow; it should be something green. Key Lime would not be the one for sure now that it would be tomorrow. I need to go to grocery store to see if there is something already made.

Amazing Dolphins, Making Bubbles!

My family and I love Dolphins, in fact we went to Seaworld in San Antonio two years ago and have enjoyed watching Dolphins did some tricks; we even fed them. It was a fun and enjoyable experienced. Anyway, if you and your family are heading to Florida for a spring break or summer vacation, you might want to consider going to Seaworld where interesting thing going on with the Dolphins. I heard that the Dolphins residing on Orlando's Seaworld's Dolphin Cove are making Dolphin Bubbles. Watch them play and create underwater bubble rings. I am sure you will enjoy interaction with their trainers and educators on site. I saw the video myself with my son and really enjoyed it. It is amazing to see them make bubbles. For me, they are very intelligent animals to do such thing, don't you think? They were even aired on ABC's World News with Charles Gibson! Take the opportunity to play with them by watching how they play with the ring bubbles underwater. Most people don't knowhow to blow a bubbles but dolphins do. Who knows, by watching them, you can learn blow bubbles, too! So, watch the Dolphin video now and see it for yourself. Don't miss this great experience with your family. After watching the video, my son wouldn't stop telling me how much he wanted to see it in person.

Is it Spring Yet?

My son is having a great time with the weather we have been having lately; after the cold snow for more than a week ago, here come the Spring. He has been playing with our neighbor's kids here whom he came to know by riding the school bus every morning. I am glad these kids are very nice to my son, they watch after him since he is the youngest. We watched them played outside secretly and really can see how so much fun they were having. Now my son wouldn't go a day without playing with them. Finally, my son has found a way to socialize, not to mention he found a new friend his age in the person of Danny. The bad thing about this is that he gets so much stimulation enough to give him a nightmare or bad dream, and that wakes him up in the middle of the night crying inconsolably for at least half an hour. I hope as he plays with friends everyday after school, that bad dream with eventually subside.

You aren't greedy, but you don't really deprive yourself either. You strike a good balance with the stuff you buy.

You are a very thrifty person. You don't like to waste money... or food.

You are a very adventurous person. You love to try new things, and you get bored very easily.

You are responsible, together, and mature. You act like an adult, even when you don't feel like it.

You are likely to be married - and very busy.

What Do the Contents of Your Refrigerator Say About You?

My husband and I love to try new things like foods. We go to a restaurant which is new to us and that is how we find out the taste or cuisine of other country. I am also a very frugal person when it comes to food. I don't waste it because there are lots of people who aren't fortunate as I am to have foods on their tables. It is also a blessing from God. When it comes to food, I love healthy food because that what I ate growing up.

Bag/Purse Tag

I got this tag from Cacai and Dhemz. It is kind of like a show and tell one. Why not try it? Thanks. guys, for this one :-).

Here are the rules:
1. Post a picture of whatever bag you are carrying as of late. No, you can't go into your closet and pull out your favorite purse! We want to know what you carried today or the last time you left the house.
2. List how much it cost. And this is not to judge. This is for entertainment purposes only. So spill it. And if there is a story to go along with how you obtained it, we’d love to hear it.
3. Tag some chicks. And link back to this post so people know why the heck you’re showing everyone your bag.

I bought this purse last year at Macy's when they were having clearance sale, I also got the wallet that matches it. Okay, that is the front of it and the other is the back.

Anyway, here are the stuffs inside of it that I can't leave, and wherever I go out, they are there: My wallet of course, cellphone, camera, face powder, lip balm, lipstick, hairbrush, handkerchief, iPod, pen, keys, hand sanitizer, wipes (for Jake), a little bottle of perfume, gum, lotion, sunglasses and hair clip. Yup, they all fit in there!

I am now passing it to everyone who hasn't tagged yet with it; grab it guys if you want to show and tell what is inside your bag/purse.
