Alfonso Fanjul Alfonso Fanjul and his brother Jose Fanjul are America’s prominent people and owners of Fanjul Corporation – a vast sugar and real estate conglomerate in the United States and Cuba of Dominican Republic. They’ve been out seeking sanctions against Sotheby’s who allegedly knows but refuse to provide information pertaining the whereabouts of the missing family painting – a famous artwork the Fanjuls used to hung on the second floor of their Havana home which Alfonso Fanjul and his brothers left behind with the rest of their possessions when they fled Cuba in 1959. "I'm disappointed that we had to find out through a third party that Sotheby's had the painting for a number of years," Pepe Fanjul said.
The Fanjuls have filed claims with the State and Treasury Departments, accusing Sotheby's of knowing who holds the Malaga Port and violating laws by refusing to provide them with the information. They also want to find out whether the Treasury Department has issued any special licenses to Sotheby's for Cuban art. Visit the link of this post for more of the story.
